PLM ALLOWS LGBTQIA STUDENTS TO WEAR PREFERRED CLOTHES
THE PAMANTASAN ng Lungsod ng Maynila allowed students belonging to the LGBTQIA community to wear their preferred dress code.
In the recent Administrative Order 21–ACA, series of 2022, PLM included a guideline for uniforms stating a ‘gender-responsive approach’ for the students.
PLM Propaganda, an LGBTQIA rights organization in the university, said the new guidelines are a ‘huge step towards a progressive and inclusive’ school.
“It contains a revisited set of guidelines with regard to uniform concerns that have been a recurring issue for a particular sector of the PLM student body, specifically the transgender community. The policy purportedly contains a gender-responsive approach to establishing the required uniforms for students,” PLM Propaganda said.
“Uniforms or clothes, in general, are a part of our everyday lives. These articles of clothing can be important to one’s identity as they are ways of expressing ourselves, particularly gender. With that, the PLM Propaganda is delighted to see our women of beauty and power wearing their gender-affirming uniforms,” it added.
Netizens also lauded PLM for the implementation of the new policy, saying it is a move in the right direction.
