A STUDENT from the Philippine Science High School Calabarzon Campus shone the brightest in the World International Mathematical Olympiad held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Reuben Joseph Felix was named the World Champion for being the top scorer in the final round of the competition.

Felix also won a gold medal for the secondary 3 category of WIMO.

Felix was mentored by Romeo Madrona Jr., who served as his coach.

WIMO participation is strictly by invitation to the gold medalists in the final rounds of three international competitions — Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad, and Guangdong Greater Bay Area (Big Bay Bei) Mathematical Olympiad.

A total of 243 gold medalists out of more than 40,000 competitors from 12 countries qualified for the WIMO.

The school commended Felix for bringing pride and honor to the country.

“Husay Pisay. Great work, Pisay Math Wizard. We are proud of you,” PSHS wrote on Facebook.
