The Philippine Normal University drew flak for inviting President Rodrigo Duterte as one of its speakers for its 120th Founding Anniversary on Wednesday.

PNU earlier revealed that Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo were both invited as guest speakers.

Students were quick to criticize the university for inviting Duterte.

They noted that the values that Duterte shows publicly “do not align” with the university’s.

“Come on, take this down. we wouldn’t want to hear anything from a person who does not uphold the truth, excellence, and service,” one student said.

“Why PNU? He is the opposite of what professionalism should be. Shame on you!” one netizen added.

The university did not back down.

Duterte said that his mother, Soledad Roa-Duterte, came from the university.
