PASIG PARTNERS WITH UST AND DEPED ON TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas has partnered with the city government of Pasig and the Department of Education’s Schools Division of Pasig for a post-baccalaureate program that will allow 162 teacher-scholars to earn a Certificate in Science Teaching.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto along with officials of UST and DepEd Pasig on Tuesday, September 20.
The program is fully funded by the Pasig City government.
During the ten-month program, 27 units will be in hybrid format. The teachers will be mentored by faculty from the UST College of Education and College of Science.
The partnership was lauded by Sotto, who said that it will “bolster the capacity of the local government’s Science teachers.”
The University Rector expressed hope that the collaboration will be the first of many partnerships between UST and the local government of Pasig.
The rector expressed the University’s commitment to help prepare the teachers “to take on leadership roles and nurture their abilities to work cross-culturally if we really have to make an impact on the kind of education we give to our students.”
Shalani Soledad-Romulo, who represented Congressman Roman Romulo, said that investing in teachers “will redound to the benefit of the students later on.”
