NEIGHBORING BARANGAYS BENEFITTED AS UPLB HOSTS MEDICAL MISSION
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines-Los Baños conducted medical mission for residents of its neighboring communities.
More than 1,500 people from Brgy. Batong Malake and Brgy. Tuntungin-Putho utilized free medical services, which included consultations, diagnostic testing, tooth extractions, and minor surgical treatments.
Patients also received complimentary vitamins, prescription medications, and reading glasses.
The project was carried out in cooperation with the UP Sigma Beta Fraternity, UP Beta Sigma Sorority, and Beta Sigma Northwest USA, which put up a team of volunteers and medical personnel.
Chancellor Jose Camacho Jr. cited Republic Act 9500 of the UP Charter, which highlights the university’s distinct role of extending community, public, and volunteer service.
According to Camacho, the UPLB differs from other higher education institutions since public service projects like medical missions are at the center of the university’s operations.
Meanwhile, Cosme Santiago, UPLB alumnus and director of Beta Sigma Northwest USA, said the event is their way of giving back to the community where they came from.
