NEGROS ORIENTAL STATE U STUDENT RECEIVES ASIA WORLD MODEL AWARD
A STUDENT of the Negros Oriental State University received the Honorable Mention award at the Asia World Model United Nations Virtual Conference.
Henry Caesar Blanco, a BS Education junior, said that he got one of the top five awards given to outstanding delegates at the AWMUN held by the International Global Network. The event aimed to amplify and develop the youth’s leadership, negotiation, diplomacy, and debating skills.
This year’s event marked AWMUN’s sixth edition. The virtual conference, now in its second year, had the theme “Rise Up and Raise Your Voice.”
A total of 1,105 delegates from different nations participated in the event held via Zoom.
Blanco, who was part of the United Nations Environment Programme council, presented the position paper of focusing on the Republic of Mauritius in “Addressing Marine Pollution,” which was the subject of the conference’s caucus, debate, general speech, and resolution-making.
He said he did not expect the award.
“I felt shocked and happy because not only did I represent and give pride to the Philippines, but I think that, in a way, I have represented NORSU. The enthusiasm I felt when they called my name for an award was certainly unexpected,” he said.
