/ 28 December 2023

THE Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology has joined forces with the Commission on Higher Education and the Ateneo de Manila University for a sociology roadmap project.

The project is called “Five-Year Discipline-based Roadmap for Sociology in the Philippines.”

It seeks to develop discipline-based roadmaps for various academic disciplines that align with CHED Memorandum Order No. 8, 2020 “to reflect current demands and anticipate future needs in higher education.”

Under the agreement, MSU-IIT will take the lead in pioneering the initiative in partnership with ADMU.

“The collaboration comes in response to CHED’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education by 2030, as well as the Ambisyon Natin 2040, embodying the long-term vision of Filipinos, emphasizing the importance of promoting quality, relevant, and responsive higher education programs aligned with international standards, national priorities, and local needs,” MSU-IIT said.

“The discipline-based roadmap for Sociology will serve as a comprehensive guide, covering diverse aspects such as overall trends, career pathways, curricular innovation, technological advancements, faculty development, and internationalization. This initiative aligns with the 21st-century demands, the 4th industrial revolution, and disruptions in higher education,” it added.

According to MSU-IIT, CHED also allocated a total fund of P3,296,000 from the Higher Education Development Fund to be implemented over eight months.

MSU-IT, as the project implementer, commits to transparently utilizing the funds, conducting necessary activities, and submitting deliverables. ADMU, as the co-project implementer, will provide support in project implementation, consultations, and submission of finalized outputs to CHED, the school said.

Meanwhile, the agreement covers important areas like intellectual property, ethical research, breach consequences, and dispute resolution.

It also emphasized proper fund use, ethical standards, and potential legal measures for violations.

Initially an eight-month project, it may be extended with agreement and adherence to terms, according to MSU-IIT.
