MSU-IIT LAUNCHES SMART HYDROPONICS IN ILIGAN CITY NAT’L HIGH SCHOOL

/ 4 October 2023

THE Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology launched its Smart Hydroponics Project at the Iligan City National High School.

The project, rolled out last July, aims to promote sustainable agriculture practices and provide teachers and students with hands-on learning and research experience in hydroponic farming.

“The smart hydroponics farming system at ICHNS is more than just a farming initiative of faculty members of MSU-IIT’s College of Engineering who are alumni of Maxtein Batch ‘97 of ICNHS and officers of the Institute of Electronics and Communication Engineers of the Philippines-Iligan City Chapter,” the university said.

“Smart hydroponics embodies the fusion of technology and nature. Through this innovative system, the team of Dr. Jefferson Hora and Dr. Marven Jabian is cultivating not only lettuce or any other vegetable but also knowledge. It is also nurturing the minds of teachers and students at ICNHS,” it added.

Hora led the turnover, ribbon cutting and first harvest ceremonies.

Also present were Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao, Dr. Jonathan Dela Peña, School Division Superintendent of the Iligan City Division; Rex Razo, Chief Education Supervisor; Zosimo Gomez, Principal of ICNHS; Dr. Rosario Reserva, Director of MSU-IIT’s WE CARE Office; and mentors and alumni of the Maxtein Batch 1997.
