MMSU HONORED AT SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AWARDS 2024
THE MARIANO Marcos State University received special recognition at the Sustainable Energy Awards 2024, becoming the only Philippine higher education institution honored by the Department of Energy.
The awarding ceremony, held on December 12 at Makati Diamond Residences, highlighted MMSU’s significant contributions to sustainable energy development.
DOE Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla noted that the recognition of institutional achievements aims to inspire support for sustainability, foster innovation, and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy.
Vice President for Resource Generation and Management Bjorn Santos accepted the award on behalf of MMSU Officer-in-Charge President Prima Fe R. Franco.
Santos described the honor as a milestone for MMSU and a testament to its commitment to renewable energy technologies and sustainable development.
“MMSU’s partnership with the DOE dates back to the 1980s with the establishment of the Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC),” the university said.
“Over the years, MMSU has led several renewable energy initiatives, including bioethanol research and capacity-building programs to help local government units adopt sustainable energy practices. It is also home to the National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center,” it added.
Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog expressed gratitude to the DOE and reaffirmed MMSU’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in Northern Luzon and beyond.
