A METALS and Engineering Innovation Center will soon rise in Ifugao State University campus in Lagawe.

IFSU will be the first university in the Cordillera Administrative Region to get a grant from the Metals Industry Research and Development Center of the Department of Science and Technology.

The center aims to develop strong partnerships with other regional academic institutions and to strengthen their capacity and capability in the field of metalworking, IFSU said.

“The MEIC focuses on strengthening and developing academic activities, conduct of researches, and training center for faculties and students to learn about metals and engineering innovations,” it added.

The university initially received P7 million worth of hydraulic press brake, hydraulic shearing machine, tig welding machine, electronic hoist, plasma cutter, and sheet metal roller.

The other equipment is expected to be delivered in March.

Officials from IFSU, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Cagayan State University, and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology signed the memorandum of agreement for the project on December 22, 2020.
