/ 23 May 2021

THE MARIANO Marcos State University donated alcohols, face masks, and personal protective equipment in local hospitals and health units in Ilocos Norte in an effort to assist healthcare workers battling the Covid19 pandemic.

Dubbed ‘Saranay against Covid19,” MMSU said the initiative is in response to the emerging needs of communities in fighting the pandemic.

“The Saranay activity is in line with the celebration of the 27th Founding Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education and the 1st National Higher Education Day themed, ‘Padyak! Moving Forward and Claiming Victory for Philippine Higher Education.”

In 2020, CHED allocated P9.7 million fund for the university to expand the program, according to the university.

The school distributed alcohols and PPEs in Laoag City and in the towns of San Nicolas, Marcos, Piddig, Vintar, and Bacarra.

“A team headed by Graduate School Dean Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. and College of Industrial Technology Dean Cesario Y. Pacis, handed over 10 laboratory gowns to each health center, 1,000 face masks in Bacarra, and 650 face masks in other towns,” it said.

“Meanwhile, nine liters of nipahol and 20 pieces of alcohol sprays produced by the MMSU National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center were given to frontliners of Piddig health center,” it added.
