MARIANO MARCOS STATE U GETS P12-M FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF CENTER FOR FLEXIBLE LEARNING

/ 31 January 2021

THE COMMISSION on Higher Education has granted the Mariano Marcos State University P12 million for the improvement of the university’s Center for Flexible Learning.

Under a Memorandum of Agreement signed by MMSU President Shirley Agrupis and CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III, the allocation will be used to boost connectivity, digitization and address flexible learning needs.

The university said it will procure network devices and equipment including multi-functional security and enterprise appliance for high-speed connectivity, stateful firewall and advanced network security, and Wi-Fi routers for wider wireless coverage.

It will also purchase equipment such as laptops, desktop computers, video conferencing devices, smart TVs, sound system and printers, computer chairs, tables and steel cabinets, and air-conditioning units.

“The generous funding from the Commission does not only allow us to create a world-class technological infrastructure in the university to excellently serve our constituents, but also reminds us of the trust being given to us —propelling us to move forward and to soar higher amid any challenge,” Agrupis said.

Dr. Saturnina Nisperos, director of the Information and Technology Center, and Dr. Marivic Alimbuyuguen, dean of the college of arts and Sciences, will spearhead the project.

To ensure the connectivity and technological needs of all MMSU constituents, the grant will also be used to establish flexible learning satellite centers in MMSU campuses in Laoag, Dingras and Currimao.

“The CFL Laoag Campus will be located at the College of Teacher Education to serve the faculty, staff and students of the Graduate School and the College of Industrial Technology. The other satellite centers will be at the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development in Dingras and at the College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology in Currimao,” MMSU said.

“Once completed, the CFL will also serve as a hub for the university’s Open Distance Learning Program, the Language Center, internationalization programs, and conduct of virtual training and classes,” it added.
