MAKATI PUBLIC SCHOOL CONDEMNS ALLEGED SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS
A PUBLIC school in Makati City condemned the sexual harassment of students allegedly by a teacher.
In a statement, Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School said that an investigation is underway after several students accused their teacher of sexual misconduct.
“The Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School strongly condemns the alleged sexual abuse committed by a teacher against one of our students. The school has already coordinated with the authorities about the matter and will assist them throughout the investigation,” the school said.
Last week, one student exposed the teacher’s sexual advances such as making comments about her “virginity.” She also shared that the educator was “very touchy” and he attempted to kiss her inside a vacant classroom.
Another learner said that the teacher threatened to fail her if she refused his sexual demands.
Meanwhile, one victim narrated that the teacher would groom girls and tell sex jokes inside the classroom.
The school vowed to provide the necessary assistance to affected students, such as psychosocial first aid.
“The school is committed to make our schools a safe space for our learners and teachers,” it said.
The POST sought a comment from the Department of Education regarding the matter but it has yet to respond.
The DepEd earlier urged students to directly report to the department cases of sexual abuse and violence in schools.
Victims can contact DepEd via [email protected] or call 8633-1942, 8635-9817 or 0995-9218461.
