THE  UP Los Baños University Student Council has decried the electronic failure of the students’ registration system known as the eUP Student Academic Information System.

The system has reportedly crashed during the pre-registration period for the new school year, according to the UPLB USC. “The learners who made attempts to prepare their desired courses prior to August 18 has struggled to “add courses to the cart” as the SAIS performed slowly or refused to accept any of the users’ commands,” it said.

The students have reported receiving a blank and white screen upon logging-in with “504 Gateway Time-out” error message greeting them.

Reports have it that when the servers for “Add to Cart” were opened, a lot of students have expressed dismay over the slow response of the information system making it hard for some to finish their transactions.

“We are yet to see measures for those without internet connection and equipment necessary for this online pre-registration,” wrote the UPLB USC to the Office of the Chancellor.

The student council has also urged for the postponement of the pre-registration period because of the lack of updated guidelines on physical tasks such as laboratory work and tuition payment procedures.

“We have requested for the immediate postponement of the pre-registration schedule which could have ended until yesterday, August 21, 2020 becuase it is still unclear as to how the technicalities or units, laboratory, thesis, fieldwork, tuition fees are to be done for the coming academic year. We believe that it is inexpedient to push for a pre-registration when the admin is yet to release the complete guidelines for the semester,” the UPLB USC stressed.

In a related development, the #JunkSAIS has trended on Twitter as the students conducted an online protest denouncing the reported faulty registration system.

I vote no,” added another Twitter post.

The Office of the Chancellor, however, has denied the request of the student body to postpone the pre-registration process saying “pre-registration will serve as a survey on the access of students to the internet and will serve as the basis of the UP System Academic Affairs committee and the respective CUs to find alternative delivery courses to cater to the needs of the students.”
