ISU HONORED BY DOST-PTRI AT 2026 TELA CONVENTION

/ 16 February 2026

ISABELA State University was recognized by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) for its role in advancing textile technology in academia during the 2026 TELA Convention at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The plaque of recognition was awarded as part of the annual Philippine Tropical Fabrics Month celebration, a three-day gathering of innovators, researchers, industry leaders, creatives, and policymakers under the theme “Stitching Futures.”

Featured during the convention were military uniforms and Barong Tagalogs crafted from yarns produced at the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC)–Isabela.

RYPIC–Isabela was established in March 2022 through a memorandum of agreement involving ISU Ilagan Campus, DOST-PTRI, DOST Regional Office 2, and the City of Ilagan.

The facility, the first of its kind in Northern Luzon and the second in the country, strengthens research and production capabilities in tropical fabrics while supporting regional industry development.

The award was presented by DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. and DOST-PTRI Director Julius Leano, and received by Dr. Freddie O. Orperia, focal person of RYPIC–Isabela.
