IFUGAO STATE U TRAINS NEW BATCH OF INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE PRACTITIONERS

/ 27 October 2022

THE IFUGAO State University Hapao Campus will train the second batch of its Indigenous Knowledge practitioners to help preserve Ifugao culture and practices.

IFSU said that 20 out-of-school youth will participate in the program which will run from October 2022 to January 2023.

They will be trained in Stone Walling or Muntupping and Stone Tiling or Mundakdak, Campus Executive Director Dr. Jose Daniels said.

The students will be trained by Professor Jose Pocdihon, a local resident, an Indigenous Person and a long-time practitioner of stonewalling and stone tiling.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Lagawe Officer-In-Charge Melita Pinic said that the training will help students to develop a wider recognition and understanding of their culture and foster a strong sense of identity and pride.

The initiative is part of the Memorandum of Understanding that IFSU and the local government of Hungduan and Tesda Lagawe signed last June.
