/ 21 May 2022

THE IFUGAO State University showcased Ifugao textile to mark International Museum Day and National Heritage Month.

An interactive textile exhibit and collection were displayed at the IFSU – Ifugao Rice Cultural Museum on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Culture-bearer and weaver Ruben M. Gumangan from the Hanglulaw subtribe demonstrated the weaving process for IFSU employees.

He showcased the “Inabol” and its design and meaning as related to the culture of his tribe.

“The color black symbolizes the night, white is the day, red is the sun and yellow is stars. They are the witnesses of the universe. If you do wrong, the universe will bear witness to your actions,” Gumangan said.

IFSU said that International Museum Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of museums with culture, while National Heritage Month aims to promote and preserve the local heritage and how it helped shape the Philippine cultural identity.

Another exhibit and cultural showcase will be held by IFSU on Thursday, May 26.
