THE GUIMARAS State University confirmed a shooting incident took place in its campus grounds on Friday in a bid to clear the air about misinformation.

In a statement, GSU said while a shooting incident took place at its Buenavista campus, the suspect has been in police custody, contrary to local reports.

“Contrary to misinformation circulating in local media, we would like to clarify that the suspect is not at large. Law enforcement authorities have successfully detained the suspect at the Buenavista Municipal Station,” GSU said.

“The university is actively cooperating with the proper authorities in conducting a thorough investigation into the incident,” it added.

The university said a follow-up statement will be released once the investigation is completed.

GSU likewise asked the public to stop spreading unverified information and to only rely on official channels.
