GAME DEVELOPMENT INDUSTRY THRIVES DURING PANDEMIC
THE CAREER path of a game developer student is limitless.
This was the message of Carl Louie So, program coordinator of iACADEMY’s Game Development Program, to students who aspire to become game developers in the future.
Despite the decline of different industries last year because of Covid19, reports said that the $150-billion gaming industry’s revenue increased by 37 percent during the pandemic.
Observers associated this growth to the need of people to socialize and entertain themselves at home during quarantine.
Aside from this, gamification in marketing is an excellent tool and has been used by different companies. Gamification of publicity materials include interactive videos, gamified AR filters, gamified surveys, playable ads, and branded minigames.
The gaming boom also increased the need for game developers and schools that offer game development programs.
iACADEMY is the first school in the country to offer a bachelor’s degree on Game Development and has been a UNITY training and certification partner.
UNITY Game Engine is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Techonologies. The UNITY Game Engine supports 25 platforms and can be used to create 3D, 2D, virtual reality, and augmented reality games.
iACADEMY said its Game Development program is anchored on the principles of programming, design, art and storytelling — all needed to create a fulfilling and entertaining game.
These basic principles combined with a faculty of industry practitioners make for the perfect combination to create game changers in the industry.
“A game developer’s skill set is somewhere in between the skills of an IT, ComSci practitioner and a multimedia artist. So the career path of a game development student is practically limitless,” So said.
iACADEMY shared that it has been holding career clinics for young students and aspiring developers. To date, they have reached over 1,000 students coming from different schools all over the country.
