THE FAR Eastern University conducted a medical mission for the elderly at neighboring barangays in this city to promote a sense of community caring among the residents.

Themed “Tams Healthy Barangay”, the initiative was led by the National Service Training Program Community Relations, in collaboration with the Alumni Relations Office, the Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing, and the Office of the Student Discipline.

FEU said the initiative is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on programs that “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”

“Almost 200 beneficiaries availed themselves of the medical services. They were elderly residents of Barangay 395, Zone 41, District IV, Manila, and Barangays 462, 463, and 464, Zone 46, District IV, Manila,” it said.

“Volunteers endured the sun’s scorching heat to participate in the worthwhile endeavor. Nine medical doctors, mostly alumni, dedicated their time to conducting medical consultations with the residents availing themselves of the free services,” it added.

Among those who checked on the residents’ health conditions were FEU Alumni Foundation Inc.’s secretary Dr. Elizabeth Milanes, FEU- Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation residents Dr. Diane Angeli De Guzman and Dr. Paul Timothy Jacinto, Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing (IHSN) faculty Dr. Wilfredo Quijencio Jr., Department of Health’s Dr. Adriel Pizarra, and Saint Agnes Medical Health Services residents Dr. Maria Agnes Soriano, Dr. Agnes Christian Soriano, Dr. Angelica Singhid, and Dr. Marco Sindayen.

Other medical practitioners and volunteers included 12 IHSN faculty, 20 IHSN students, one Medical Technology faculty, 43 MedTech students, five ARO volunteers, five NSTP facilitators, 1 NSRC adviser, 23 National Service Reserve Corps (student volunteers and five ComRel teams).

They were assigned to do any vital sign checking, blood testing, patient profiling, medicine inventory, releasing of prescription medicine, or distributing food and freebies.
