/ 7 December 2022

THE DAVAO Oriental State University will roll out a program to study the culture of Indigenous People in Davao Oriental and their response to globalization.

The research study, dubbed “Yang pag Bal’law- bal’law: Struggles and Lived-experiences of Mandaya, Manobo, and Almaciga Tappers in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental,” aims to find out the effects of “powerful economic globalization” on the tribes.

DorSU said that the tribes’ “cultural struggle” will be studied, including the aspirations, motivations, expression of cultural identity, and efforts for self-determination amidst globalization.

DorSU President Roy Ponce said that the study will help promote the welfare and interest of the said communities.

It will also give them a voice to respond to “cultural struggles” which is part of the Regenerative Futures

“We will favor activities that balance people and environment,” Ponce said.
