DLSU, USJ MACAU STRENGTHEN TIES THROUGH SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAMS

/ 25 January 2025

DE LA SALLE University welcomed a delegation from the University of Saint Joseph Macau earlier this week for a collaborative session on Service-Learning programs.

The event began with a welcome address from DLSU Vice President for Lasallian Mission Fritzie Ian De Vera, who highlighted the shared values of community service and academic excellence between the two institutions.

Leading the USJ delegation was Vice-Rector Teresa Loong, accompanied by Mr. Ben John Bosco Lei and several professors. They shared their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing initiatives like support for visually impaired students, mental health research, and the “Healthy Sleep Ambassador Program.”

DLSU’s Social Engagement and Service-Learning Programs were presented by Juanito Alcazar and Mei Guanzon.

Faculty members from various colleges, including Dr. Peracullo, Dr. Migallos, Atty. Garganta, Dr. Flores, and Ms. Balatbat, shared personal experiences integrating Service-Learning into academic objectives and the university’s Lasallian core values.

Jimi Caldea, Program Coordinator, and Erika Lareza discussed the Uniservitate Asia & Oceania Regional Hub, outlining its 2025 initiatives, such as global symposiums, capacity-building programs, and the Uniservitate Awards, which merge Service-Learning with spirituality for transformative education.

The session concluded with an open discussion where USJ and DLSU representatives explored potential collaborations and future sessions to further enhance their Service-Learning programs.

“Overall, the visit was more than just an exchange of ideas; it celebrated the shared hopes of both universities to foster a socially engaged academic environment. Both DLSU and USJ look forward to working together and making a positive impact in their communities,” the university said.
