DLSU LAW TEAM RANKS 13TH GLOBALLY AT 2024 FDI MOOT IN BERLIN

/ 14 November 2024

LAW students from De La Salle University placed 13th in the group phase of the 2024 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Moot held in Berlin, Germany, standing out among 68 teams worldwide.

The Tañada-Diokno School of Law team, composed of Justin Christopher de Borja, Shane Andrew Magnaye, Lance Joseph Nolasco, and Jena Therese Tiongson, earned this placement through strong performances in both written and oral rounds.

The team was coached by Associate Professor Rebecca E. Khan, a faculty member specializing in Public International Law and International Economic Law, with TDSOL alumnus Atty. Francis Gerard J. Bautista as alumni coach.

This year’s FDI Moot arbitration case centered on a satellite internet provider’s claims of expropriation against a host state, challenging teams to apply key principles of international investment law, including expropriation, police powers, third-party funding, and document production.

Beyond the competition, the moot offered invaluable networking and learning experiences. The DLSU-TDSOL team participated in workshops on international law writing and analysis led by experts like Maciej Zenkiewicz.

They also connected with peers from countries such as China, South Korea, Chile, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong, Italy, Cambodia, and India, making it a memorable experience representing the Philippines on the global stage.
