DLSU LAGUNA DEPLOYS CHALLENGE-BASED LEARNING; CHAMPIONS SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION

9 April 2025

LAGUNA– De La Salle University (DLSU) Laguna commemorated the 50th anniversary of its University Charter with an exclusive campus tour that highlighted its commitment to challenge-based teaching, groundbreaking initiatives, and a strong focus on sustainability and innovation.

According to Dr. Jonathan Dungca, Vice President for the Laguna Campus and Dean of the School of Innovation and Sustainability, DLSU Laguna aims to become a hub for scientific and technological advancement in the country.

“We want to embrace sustainability and innovation while preparing our students for a better and brighter future,” Dungca said.

During the event, Dr. Dungca emphasized the use of challenge-based teaching on campus, where students are presented with real-world problems and encouraged to develop solutions firsthand.

As part of the DLSU Laguna Campus Media Day, school administrators offered an exclusive tour of the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories and incubation centers, including the newly constructed Enrique K. Razon Jr. Hall.

“We must live up to our name as the School of Innovation and Sustainability. These facilities can be shared with other individuals and institutions—they’re open to other universities, especially those in nearby areas,” Dungca added.

The university also showcased its on-campus sustainability initiatives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Caravan, tree planting, river management and cleanup efforts, upcycling activities, and living laboratories such as the bike-powered generator, savonius wind turbine, and other interactive sustainability units. The school also promotes service-learning programs with partner communities.

Looking ahead, DLSU Laguna envisions a future where innovations and homegrown solutions will proliferate nationwide—supporting professionals such as engineers, policy-makers, and more.
