DLSU-D LAW DEAN LEADS FIRST DIVINALAW INT’L LEGAL CLINIC FOR OFWS IN CHINA
AN OFFICIAL from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas has spearheaded DivinaLaw’s first international free legal clinic for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) held in Chongqing, China.
College of Law Dean Atty. Mary Jude Marvel, who heads DivinaLaw’s Pro Bono and Dulog Legal Services, emphasized the importance of legal literacy among OFWs dealing with labor, family, and citizenship issues abroad.
“Our focus will be guided more by community needs and consular partnerships than by geography,” she said.
Organized in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing, the initiative forms part of DivinaLaw’s Dulog Legal Program, which provides free legal education and assistance to Filipino communities.
Launched in 2022 under the leadership of Managing Partner Atty. Nilo Divina, the program aims to make legal services more accessible while strengthening public awareness and understanding of the law.
The session brought together Filipino professionals and consulate personnel from Chongqing, Guizhou, and Yunnan, and discussed key legal concerns such as employment rights, taxation, and family law.
Through this initiative, DLSU-D’s College of Law underscores its commitment to service and justice, as Dean Marvel continues to extend Lasallian legal advocacy to Filipino communities overseas.
