IPINAKITA na ang proposed architectural design ng bagong gusali ng University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery na sinisimulan nang buuin.

Ayon kay UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P., ang gusali ay pangangalanang Saint Cosmas and Damian Research Center and Simulation Building na nakaplanong matapos sa ilalim ng kanyang panunungkulan.

Walong palapag ang inaasahan na mayroong house simulation, research facilities, learning and study center, faculty lounge, at auditorium para sa medicine students.

Ipupuwesto ito sa parking lot, katabi ng Tan Yan Kee Student Center, harap ng Miguel de Benavides Library.

“If and when prevailing circumstances would allow, considering the limited financial resources in these times, the Saint Cosmas and Damian Research Center and Simulation Building will rise in España campus during my term. And medical students will get to interact with robotic patients and benefit from the advantages of a replicated clinical environment before treating actual patients,” sabi ni Ang.

Ang pagpapatayo ng bagong gusali ay kaalinsabay ng pagdiriwang ng ika-150 anibersaryo ng pakultad.

“[This is a] proof that a vision can become a provision and a dream can become reality,” sabi ni Medicine Dean Ma. Lourdes Maglinao sa groundbreaking ceremony.

“Let us show we have UST: unity, solidarity and tenacity to aspire for better days and years ahead and do everything we can to make our future everything it can be and make UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at par with global standards in medical education,” dagdag niya.

Ang UST ang pinakamantandang paaralang pangmedisina sa Filipinas na itinatag noong Mayo 28, 1871 sa pangalang Facultad de Medicine y Farmacia.
