CNU PARTNERS WITH DSWD, CEBU CITY
THE CEBU Normal University partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Cebu City Local Government for the implementation of the “Tara, Basa!” Tutoring Program.
A memorandum of agreement was recently signed between key officials of CNU, DSWD, and Cebu City LGU.
CNU said the collaboration aims to address the pressing challenge of reading literacy among children in diverse barangays and communities throughout the city.
During the signing ceremony, CNU president Dr. Daniel Ariaso reaffirmed its commitment to educational excellence and community engagement.
Ariaso also emphasized the integration of the initiative into the university’s research and development empowerment program, ensuring its long-term sustainability and profound impact on local communities.
“CNU’s role as the delivering agency highlights its esteemed position as a leading institution in teacher education, pledging to mobilize its resources and expertise to advance the program’s objectives effectively,” the university said.
“As the sole provider of tutors for the program, Cebu Normal University pledges to deploy its exceptional teaching talent to ensure the success of ‘Tara, Basa!’ Efforts to exhaust all available resources, particularly in manpower, underscore CNU’s dedication to realizing the program’s goals and making a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners,” it added.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, along with DSWD Region VII Regional Director Dir. Shalaine Marie Lucero, DSWD Undersecretary for Innovations Usec. Eduard Punay, and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, representatives from the Department of Education and Cebu City LGU also attended the event.
