CMU PROFS JOIN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM ON FUNGAL INFECTION DIAGNOSTICS

/ 4 January 2025

TWO faculty members from Central Mindanao University recently participated in the Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis of Emerging Fungal Infections program held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The participants were Dr. Kassey Alsylle Dargantes and Dr. Ted Aries Daguro, both professors from the university’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Supported by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, the program aimed to equip attendees with advanced skills in clinical and laboratory diagnostics to address the growing threat of fungal infections.

The training included expert-led lectures on epidemiology and clinical management, as well as hands-on sessions on molecular diagnostics, practical techniques, and collaborative case analyses.

Dr. Dargantes and Dr. Daguro attended the program through scholarships provided by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under its Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program.

The HUSAY Program is part of CHED’s initiative to enhance the professional development of higher education faculty through international training opportunities.

“Their involvement highlights CMU’s commitment to advancing public health and addressing global health challenges, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being,” the university said.

“By applying their newly acquired expertise in fungal infection diagnostics, they aim to strengthen CMU’s research, education, and community extension programs,” it added.
