CMU PROFESSOR REPRESENTS PHILIPPINES IN GLOBAL CHEMICAL SAFETY PROGRAM

/ 10 January 2026

A FACULTY member from Central Mindanao University  recently represented the Philippines in a high-level international program on chemical safety and governance in South Korea.

Engr. Emmie Gonzales Reyes completed the Executive Program on Integrated Chemicals Management, organized by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Korea, held last month in Seoul.

Reyes attended the program as the official Philippine delegate, endorsed by the National Authority of the Philippines on the Chemical Weapons Convention, underscoring her role in promoting international cooperation on chemical safety.

The course covered the Chemical Weapons Convention, integrated chemicals management, chemical safety and security risk assessment, sustainable chemistry, waste management, and emerging tools such as artificial intelligence in chemical governance.

Insights from the program are expected to enhance CMU’s Office of Environmental and Safety Management, particularly in improving chemical inventory systems, risk assessment, and hazardous waste management protocols.

University officials said the program highlights CMU’s leadership in chemical safety and its commitment to the safe and peaceful application of chemistry for national development and environmental protection.
