BICOL UNIVERSITY’S NEW ADMISSION POLICY DRAWS FLAK
THE BICOL University’s decision to include certification as admission requirement drew flak from students with some saying that the new system is “unfair” for others.
BU earlier announced that it will not hold entrance examinations this year because of the recent spike of Covid19 cases.
Admissions will be based on an applicants’ general average in Grades 9, 10, and 11 and his/her earned certificates.
The certificates include extracurricular profile, community engagement, part-time work, among others which covers 30 percent of the scoring system.
Several applicants and netizens said that including certificates in the admission requirements is “unfair” as some students are not engaged in extracurricular activities.
“Hope they get the idea of how it would be troublesome for other students na [walang] mai- present na certificate,” one commented on the BU announcement on Facebook.
Other applicants hope that BU will change its policy saying that there are also deserving students who do not have certificates to show.
