BATANGAS STATE U TARGETS TO CREATE 1ST BLUE ZONE IN PH
THE BATANGAS State University is targeting to create the first-ever Blue Zone in the Philippines, in a bid to imprint a healthy culture in the country through technology and medical science.
The BSU, Paraiso Village Farm, and the local government unit of San Jose, Batangas held a Blue Zone Summit last Saturday (20 Jan 2024), where stakeholders brainstormed to discuss ways for longer life.
According to the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, a Blue Zone describes regions of the world where people live longer than average and maintain good health, and where there are particularly high numbers of centenarians.
The Paraiso farm is set to be the first blue zone in the country.
“This transformative initiative seeks to make Paraiso the Philippines’ first Blue Zone Farm, aligning with key SDGs such as Good Health and Well-Being, Reduced Inequalities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Life on Land, and Partnership for the Goals,” the BSU said.
BSU president Tirso Ronquillo also discussed how research initiatives and endeavors in communication, nursing, and nutrition can help keep healthy aging and holistically well-lived lives.
A memorandum of agreement was also signed between the parties, dubbed as “BatStateU Paraiso Longevity Program Partnership.”
