THE CENTRAL student government of the Ateneo de Manila University has voted against the proposal of some students to cease submitting academic requirements as a form of protest against the government for its ‘criminal negligence’ during the recent calamities in the country.
The Central Assembly on Tuesday voted 7-2 against the petition asking students to stop passing academic requirements starting November 18.
The ‘academic strike’ was in response to the alleged negligence of the government in addressing calamities and the pandemic.
Student organizations who supported the movement believe the strike in the university would force the government to take action on recent crises.
Students from different colleges and universities earlier gathered in the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Katipunan to protest the government’s recent pandemic and disaster response.
The call for academic strike reached President Rodrigo Duterte who on Tuesday threatened to stop the funding for the University of the Philippines.
