ATENEO RESEARCH FELLOW APPOINTED AS COMMISSIONER OF LANCET COMMISSION
A RESEARCH fellow from the Ateneo de Manila University, Dr. Kenneth Hartigan-Go, was appointed as the new Commissioner for the Lancet Commission.
Ateneo said the Lancet Commission is an ongoing initiative that uses “Cities without Aedes” principles.
The commission looks into how cities and towns can be built and managed to reduce the risk of mosquito-transmitted diseases.
“There is growing global urbanization and coupled with climate change consequences, the challenge is about how society can develop effective control programs using innovative technologies in “creating cities without Aedes mosquitoes,” the Ateneo said.
“Multisectoral strategy on Aedes mosquito prevention is one of the basic components of sustainable and healthy modern urban environments,” it added.
Hartigan-Go currently serves as the Senior Research Fellow of the Health Governance Program of the Ateneo Policy Center, the public policy think tank of the Ateneo School of Government.
He is also an Adjunct Faculty at the Asian Institute of Management.
Before joining the academe, Hartigan-Go served as the Undersecretary of the Department of Health from 2015 to 2016, Director General of the Food and Drugs Administration from 2012 to 2014, and Deputy Director of the Bureau of Food and Drugs from 1999 to 2001.
