/ 24 September 2022

THE ATENEO de Manila University will offer two new doctoral programs for Academic Year 2023-2024 through the Gokongwei Brother School of Education and Learning Design.

The development came after the Commission on Higher Education approved the proposal of ADMU to offer Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD in Education) and Doctor of Education (EdD), respectively.

PhD in Education is an academic doctorate that aims to offer rigorous training for educationalists and educational researchers focused on high-quality, high-impact research work, and aimed at helping shape education policy and creating interventions to improve educational practice.

“With its research emphasis, this doctoral program in education is designed to equip students with the competences essential to conducting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research intended to inform and impact education practice and policy,” ADMU said.

“Students are offered both scholarly supervision and personal mentoring in the entirety of the program so that not only are they equipped with an in-depth understanding of current educational trends and issues, but they are also provided with the expertise needed in an array of quantitative and qualitative methods they will need to do solid high-impact research,” it added.

Meanwhile, EdD is a professional doctorate designed for professionals in education committed to making a difference in educational research, policy, and practice.

These professionals may choose from three tracks of the program, namely, Learning and Teaching, Educational Leadership and Administration, and Catholic Educational Leadership and Pedagogy.

“The EdD program is a practice-based doctoral program that aims to prepare education professionals to meet the demands of leadership, be it exercised in actual school administration, in the classroom, in research, or in policy formulation,” the university said.

“The 33 units of coursework are designed to improve the student’s grasp of educational theory and practice in various aspects of the educational process, emerging trends, and issues in the field will be examined critically to help the student in their professional growth as academic and professional leaders,” it added.
