ATENEO MATH MAJORS PRESENT RESEARCH PAPER IN INT’L CONFERENCE

/ 27 September 2023

MATHEMATICS majors from the Ateneo de Manila University presented their research in the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks 2023 recently held in Gold Coast, Australia.

They are Jimson Paulo Layacan, Aengus Martin Donaire and Harvey Felipe of the Collaborative Analytics Group of the Department of Mathematics.

Layacan and Donaire presented their paper titled “Revealing Causal Graph Structure in Pigeon Flocks Using Attentions in Temporal ConvNet,” which employs a deep learning approach to study collective animal behavior.

“The researchers used high-resolution spatiotemporal data of moving pigeons and employed an attention-based deep learning architecture to infer causal relationships between pigeons,” Ateneo said.

“Their paper has been published in a Scopus-indexed conference proceedings by International Neural Network Society,” it added.

Dr. Clark Kendrick Go, head of the Ateneo Collaborative Analytics group, served as the student’s mentor.

IJCNN is the premier international conference in the area of neural networks theory, analysis, and applications.

It is jointly organized by the International Neural Network Society and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
