ATENEO INKS PACT WITH CHINA, KOREA INSTITUTIONS ON VARIOUS ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

/ 18 June 2023

ATENEO de Manila University renewed its partnership with Xiamen University in China for the implementation of various academic programs.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by Ateneo President Fr. Roberto Yap and XU President Zhang Zongyi earlier this month.

The two institutions had an agreement in 1992 and renewed it later in 2009.

During the meeting, representatives from both schools discussed possible avenues of cooperation including student and faculty exchanges, and research projects.

Meanwhile, Ateneo also signed an agreement with Korea Taekkyeon Association to promote the globalization of Taekkyeon.

Taekkyeon is a traditional Korean martial art registered by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity through mutual exchange and cooperation.

Through the Ateneo Korean Studies Program in collaboration with the Physical Education Program, the school welcomed the KTA delegation led by Vice President and Grandmaster Man-Yeob Park.

“During their visit, the KTA delegation explored and viewed ongoing exhibits at the Areté, Ateneo’s hub for arts and innovation,” the school said in a statement.

“They also conducted Taekkyeon class, providing a unique opportunity for students and enthusiasts to learn from experienced practitioners and facilitated training for Taekkyeon instructors during their one-week stay in the Philippines,” it added.
