/ 23 March 2023

THE ATENEO de Manila University’s School of Government, in partnership with the National Defense College of the Philippines, hosted a delegation from the United Arabs Emirates National Defense College and UAE Embassy earlier this month.

The visit aimed to deepen the UAE delegation’s understanding of the Philippine regional security landscape and geopolitical context.

It also sought to develop insights about the country’s position on various security concerns from an academic perspective.

Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, dean of the Ateneo School of Government, and Brigadier General Staff Pilot Khalifa Butti Alshmashi, head of the delegation, shared their insights.

“Dr. Leslie A. Lopez, director of the Development Studies Program of Ateneo de Manila University and RADM Rommel Jude G Ong (Ret), MDM, Professor of Praxis and Research Fellow at the Ateneo School of Government, also presented a lecture on understanding the developments surrounding the Armed Forces of the Philippines through a historical-institutionalist lens, and regional security issues, respectively,” the university said.

Symbolizing the strong partnership between the institutions, ADMU President Fr. Roberto Yap facilitated the bequeathal of the memento of St. Ignatius de Loyola to the delegation, it added.
