ADMU ALUMNI GROUP DONATES BICYCLE RACKS TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY MODES

/ 23 February 2023

TO PROMOTE sustainable and healthy modes of transport, an alumni group of the Ateneo de Manila University donated 4 four-loop inverted-u bicycle racks to the university.

BS Management Engineering Class of 1977 represented by Dr. Robert Siy turned over the racks in a blessing ceremony attended by ADMU officials, including Vice President for the Loyola Schools Dr. Marlu Vilches.

“This is a small step. But we hope it will encourage to think about what we would call sustainable mobility modes and solutions,” Siy said.

The alumni group previously donated bicycle racks to the Ateneo Senior High School.

Vilches said that the initiative will help change mindsets.

“It’s not easy to do that just through lecture and classes. You’ve got to act on it, and one way of doing that is through infrastructure,” Vilches said.

“I was thinking of this, that having infrastructure like that will change mindsets, will change behavior in a quiet way. And I think that’s what we need to do,” she added.

Sanggunian President TJ Alcantara believed that most students are mobility advocates.

“I think this project, this initiative is really a step towards the right direction, for us to pursue sustainable, inclusive, and people-centric mobility,” Alacantara said.
