THE ATENEO de Manila University was ranked as one of the world’s best universities for delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals based on the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022.

The ranking, which measured 1,406 institutions from 106 countries, placed Ateneo in the 101-200 bracket.

The university was highest among the 15 Philippine institutions in the list, with an overall score of 83.7 out of 100.

Last year, Ateneo was in the 201-300 bracket.

THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities’ adherence to the SDGs. It uses carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas — research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

ADMU secured high scores in five SDGs — Clean Water and Sanitation (48); Sustainable Cities and Communities (77); Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (101-200); and Partnership for the Goals (101-200).

“Ateneo de Manila again shows that beyond excellence in teaching, learning, and formation, our community – students, faculty, staff, professionals, and many other stakeholders – is a true agent of positive, real-world change,” Fr. Roberto Yap SJ, ADMU president, said.

“As I’ve said last year, the Impact Rankings align well with our identity and mission as a Filipino, Catholic and Jesuit institution. With or without the Impact Rankings, the best measure of how we affect change is still the number of communities and lives we helped change for the better,” he added.

Meanwhile, the De La Salle University landed in the Top 401-600 bracket.

The university was ranked in four areas – Clean Water and Sanitation (101-200); Life Below Water (101-200); Responsible consumption and production (201-300); Partnership for the Goals (301-400); No poverty (401-600); and Quality education (601-800).

The other learning institutions included in the rankings were Mariano Marcos State University (401-600); Central Luzon State University (601-800); Mapua University (601-800); University of Santo Tomas (601-800); Tarlac Agricultural University (601-800); and Mindanao State University-Ilagan Institute of Technology (601-800).

Also in the list were Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (801-1000); San Beda University (801-1000); Visayas State University (801-1000); University of Asia and the Pacific (1000+); Cebu Technological University (1000+); St. Paul University Philippines (1000+); and Tarlac State University (1000+).
