2 SHORT FILMS OF UPV PROF TO COMPETE IN FACINE FESTIVAL
TWO short films directed by a professor of the University of the Philippines-Visayas will be part of the 30th Filipino Arts & Cinema, International Festival.
Prof. Kevin Piamonte’s “Dog Eaters” and “Waiting Shed” will be screened on October 18-22, 2023 on the FACINE YouTube channel.
“Dog Eaters” is an adaptation of the 1975 Palanca-winning short story “The Dog Eaters” by Leoncio Deriada, while “Waiting Shed”, written by Kenneth de la Cruz, was inspired by Louie Malle’s 1981 film “My Dinner with Andre.”
“Dog Eaters is about social realism and set in a slum. Waiting Shed, on the other hand, features two people sitting and talking for the entire film,” Piamonte said.
The films were created by ERK Film Production and UPV and were funded through the Creative Work Grant Window from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension.
For this year, 19 short films will compete for awards in various categories in FACINE out of 50 entries from the Philippines, the United States, Australia, and Europe.
FACINE is the longest-running American festival of Filipino independent films. It is a non-profit media arts organization committed to develop and promote Filipino American media arts and advance the interests of cinemas from the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora.
