TWO Accountancy students from the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology claimed the top two spots in the recently concluded 13th Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants National Accounting Quiz Showdown.

Shania Rose Lozano placed first while Sofia Russel Mae Suico came in second in the virtual competition organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants.

“The competition was composed of two rounds — Elimination and Semi-Finals, with questions divided into easy, average, and difficult categories,” MSU-IIT said.

“Lozano and Suico received certificates of recognition and were given discounts of 100 percent and 80 percent respectively, on their registration fees for the National Mid-Year Convention,” it added.

Jafar Muksan of Ateneo de Davao University claimed the third place; Dorothy Muyargas of Western Mindanao University landed fourth place; and Claribelle Lee of Notre Dame of Marbel University in Koronadal City, South Cotabato placed  fifth.

The top five winners will proceed to the final round of the competition.

Students from 13 regions joined the competition.

NFJPIA partnered with SyCip Gorres Velayo and Company in hosting the quiz showdown.

The annual competition seeks to promote academic excellence as well as connections and camaraderie among contestants.
