/ 6 January 2024

TWO professors from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law were among the newly appointed members of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, representing the Philippines.

These are Sedfrey Candelaria and Antonio La Viña, former dean of ALS and former dean of the Ateneo School of Government, respectively.

The Department of Foreign Affairs recently received confirmation from the International Bureau of the PCA.

“Based on our belief and expectation that acknowledged expertise and integrity are essential traits for appointments of this sort to a significant international organization such as the PCA, it is with special pride that we note that two of such newly appointed members are current members of the faculty of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law,” the university said.

“Ateneo Law congratulates Dean Sedfrey and Dean Tony and wishes each one of them all the best as they carry out their PCA duties,” it added.

Established in 1900 pursuant to the Hague Peace Conference of 1899, the PCA is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to serving the international community in the field of dispute resolution.
