AT LEAST 10 universities in the country were included in the list of top education institutions for 2022 based on the latest UI Greenmetric World University Rankings.

UIGWUR is a ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability of world universities which is determined by six criteria. It was initiated by the Universitas Indonesia in 2010.

The De La Salle University Dasmariñas landed in the 274th spot while DLSU Manila ranked 302nd.

Tarlac Agricultural University entered the list at 317th spot and Batangas State University placed 351st.

Also in the list are the Mariano Marcos State University (356th), Bataan Peninsula University (567th), Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (650th), Xavier University Ateneo De Cagayan (664th), Ateneo De Davao University (758th) and the Manila Central University (804th).

This year, 1,050 universities across the globe were ranked on three pillars of sustainability: Environmental, Social, and Economic.

To assess the schools, the UIGWUR used six indicators — transportation, water usage, waste management, setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, and education and research.

“We selected criteria that are generally considered to be of importance by universities concerned with sustainability,” the UIGWUR said on its website.

“These include the collection of basic information of the size of the university and its zoning profile, whether urban, suburban, or rural. Beyond this we would like to see the degree of green space. The next category of information concerns with electricity consumption because of its link to our carbon footprint,” it added.
