DEPED LAUNCHES GALAW PILIPINAS
THE Department of Education (DepEd) recently introduced a national calisthenic exercise program.
It aims to promote a healthy lifestyle by incorporating steps and movements from Filipino ethnic dances. It would be beneficial to the physical and emotional well-being of the learners.
It also aimed to improve strength flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and coordination.
The program was named ‘Galaw Pilipinas: The national calisthenics exercises program’ by the DepEd’s Bureau of Curriculum Development and Special Program Division.
“Galaw” symbolized various movements from the country’s treasured folk, cultural, and tribal dances, as well as a few stances from the national sport, arnis.
The program also wanted to promote cultural awareness by integrating Philippine culture in calisthenic exercise.
