PERLAS SPIKERS ENDS TWO-GAME LOSING SKID, TOPPLES CIGNAL TO BOOK FIRST WIN IN PVL
Perlas Spikers ceases their two-game losing skid after stunning Cignal HD, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21, on Thursday, July 29 in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at the PVC Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Perlas racked a slow start to bag its first win led by Nicole Tiamzon, Cherry Nunag, and Heather Guino-o, who contributed 13 markers apiece.
“Sobrang laki kasi ‘yung opportunity nabigyan namin ng hustisya. Tapos ang isa pa naming kailangan kasi ‘yung kumpiyansa so ‘yung panalo malaking kumpiyansa ang mabibigay individually. Sobrang salamat,” Perlas head coach Rei Diaz averred.
“Sobrang blessing ito sa lahat ng pinagdaanan namin… Nakita n’yo naman kung gaano kami nag-celebrate kanina and we know hindi talaga kami nag-iiwanan and nandiyan pa din si Lord hanggang sa huli,” Tiamzon added.
It was a balanced offense in the entire match for Perlas after recovering from a first set loss and sending the HD Spikers on the brink of elimination.
Veteran Suzanne Roces was also instrumental as she delivered 11 points, all coming from spikes.
Jellie Tempiatura manned the floor defense for the Perlas Spikers, managing 33 of the team’s whopping 111 digs.
Guino-o also helped Perlas’ floor defense a lot by posting 16 excellent digs while Cayuna ended with 24 excellent sets and four aces for nine markers.
Cignal fell to its fifth defeat and is on the brink of elimination despite the big efforts of Janine Marciano who top-scored Cignal with 12 markers, followed by Norielle Ipac who had 11 points, and Roselyn Doria with 10 points.
