THE UP DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS OFFERS ONLINE CLASSES FOR ASIAN LANGUAGES
The UP Department of Linguistics Extramural Classes offers online classes for interested language learners in Bahasa, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and Thai. Each class accommodates 20-24 students and averages 26 classes per cycle. Cycles 1 and 2 started early this year while Cycle 3 will begin on September 2020.
“We are still finalizing the details but it is slated to begin this August and will be a 2-week registration period,” said Michael Manahan, coordinator, Asian Languages Extramural Classes.
The program is part of the UP Department of Linguistics’ efforts to support Filipinos who wish to learn a new language, whether it be for research, personal development or career growth, among others.
Cycle 3 will be conducted online, via ZOOM, in order to reach out to more aspiring Filipino polyglots during this pandemic. “We will be offering Saturday classes that meet once a week for 3 hours per session and weekday classes that meet twice a week for 2 hours per session for a total of 30 hours. Classes will be from September 26 to November 28,” Manahan added.
