HINDI nagpapahinga ang serbisyong pangkalusugan ng Department of Agriculture – National Dairy Authority.

Kahit na may  pandemya at sunod-sunod ang nararanasang kalamidad ng bansa ay patuloy pa rin ang DA-NDA sa implementasyon ng School-Based Milk Feeding Program katuwang ang Department of Education.

Alinsunod sa Republic Act 11037 o ang ‘Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act’, ang mga batang nakararanas ng malnutrisyon ay prayoridad ng kagawaran sa pagbibigay ng mga masustansyang pagkain, kasama ang milk component nito na sinusuplay ng NDA.

Nakasaad sa batas na,  “The DepEd shall implement a school-based feeding program for undernourished public school children from kindergarten to grade six: Provided, that the Program shall include the provision of at least one fortified meal to all undernourished public elementary school children for a period of not less than one hundred twenty days in a year.”

Dagdag pa, “The NGAs shall coordinate with the Department of Agriculture, the National Dairy Authority, the Philippine Carabao Center, and the Cooperative Development Authority for the incorporation of fresh milk and fresh milk-based food products in the fortified meals and cycle menu in accordance with Republic Act No 8172, otherwise known as the ‘Philippine Food Fortification Act of 2000’.”

Dahil walang face-to-face classes, mga magulang ang pupunta ng paaralan para kunin ang pagkaing para sa kanilang mga anak.

Sa kasalukuyan, tatlong schools division offices na ang nagpasinaya ng feeding program – ang Lungsod ng Ormoc noong Oktubre 14 at ang Guimaras at Timog Cotabato noong Nobyembre 9.

Target ng DA-NDA na 120 pang SDOs ang makapagsagawa ng feeding program ngayong taon. Sa huling pagtaya ay makatutulong ito sa higit 300,000 mga bata sa buong bansa.
