NAVOTAS LGU, SDO TO RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS FOR ‘TUTOR-A-LEARNING CHILD” PROGRAM

/ 5 August 2020

To further aid in the city’s modular distance learning measures amid the current health crisis, the Local Government of Navotas City and the city’s Schools Division Office (SDO), are calling for volunteers for its joint project “Tutor-a-Learning Child” (TLC).

The project intends to cater to Navoteño students across the city’s 24 public elementary and secondary schools. Qualified students include those whose parents have little to no capability to provide for their child’s home-based learning and those who are considered as “non-readers” or “frustrated readers” who do not have the gadgets and resources to comply with online learning.

The Navotas SDO also noted in their memorandum that the project also promotes volunteerism that can be useful in achieving its goal for the Navoteño youth:

“This is intended for disadvantaged children, whose circumstances made it difficult for their parents to supervise and guide their home-based learning, and so help them gain access to quality modular distance education by harnessing the spirit of volunteerism through an organized and systematic para-education and fostering program,” the Navotas SDO explained.

Aspiring volunteer tutors who are 13 years old and above may apply to the program through a Google Form and will be subjected to screening by the Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS).

The application for TLC tutors will be until Friday, August 7, as stated in a memorandum issued by the Navotas SDO on July 30.

TLC is part of the efforts of Navotas City in promoting modular distance learning for K-12 students.

Last June, they spearheaded the “Hatid Aral Program” where school faculties and officials participate in distributing learning kits dubbed as the “NavoSchool-in-a-Box”; containing learning materials, school supplies, guides for students and parents, hygiene kits, and toys for lower grade levels.

Navotas City schools also started doing simulations as early as June to assess the city’s preparedness in implementing modular distance learning schemes in the city.
