LAWMAKER SEEKS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL BENEFITS FOR PUBLIC BASIC EDUCATION PERSONNEL
SENATOR Joel Villanueva has filed a measure granting additional benefits to all teaching and non-teaching personnel in public basic education schools.
In his Senate Bill 1606, or the proposed Additional Allowances for Public Basic Education Personnel Act, Villanueva emphasized that the public education system thrives because of the dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
He added that these personnel carry out their responsibilities every day under challenging conditions, including the high cost of living, limited resources, and increasing workload.
Yet, Villanueva noted, institutional support for their basic needs remains inadequate.
The bill seeks to address this gap by ensuring that teaching and non-teaching personnel in public basic education, including those in the Alternative Learning System, receive tangible, regular support to supplement their daily needs.
Specifically, the measure proposes a P3,000 quarterly allowance for groceries and transportation, and a P2,000 quarterly medical allowance.
The proposed allowances would be adjusted every three years for inflation and are tax-exempt.
