SENATOR: END EDUCATION CRISIS, GIVE EVERY FILIPINO CHILD A FAIR SHOT AT SUCCESS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian reaffirmed his commitment to end the country’s education crisis as the nation marks National Children’s Month, emphasizing the need to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and future success.
“As we celebrate National Children’s Month, I reaffirm my commitment to end the education crisis and give every Filipino child a fair shot at success,” Gatchalian said.
“Ang matatag na pundasyon ang pinakamagandang pamana na maiiwan natin sa susunod na henerasyon,” he added.
The senator underscored the importance of strengthening early childhood care and development programs and ensuring that all learners achieve functional literacy — which he described as key to unlocking better opportunities for the next generation.
Gatchalian, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, vowed to prioritize funding for education reforms and learner support in the 2026 national budget, particularly initiatives that address learning gaps and improve access to quality education.
“We should strengthen early childhood care and development programs, and ensure that every learner achieves functional literacy,” he said.
“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, I will ensure that these goals are prioritized in the education budget we aim to craft for 2026,” he added.
National Children’s Month, observed every November, highlights the rights, welfare, and development of Filipino children — an advocacy Gatchalian said must be matched with concrete action to secure the nation’s future through education.
